Best ski jacket for women

By Ryan.

Interestingly, we often say that the more options we have to choose from, the more difficult the choice actually gets. We don’t know whether it’s true for all types of stuff, but it definitely applies to shopping for ski outfits, especially if you are a novice. Experienced skiers say that once you have picked good-quality equipment and the appropriate clothes for skiing, you are all set for an enjoyable day on the slopes! Well, let’s see what most skiers usually consider when buying women’s ski jackets.

What things should I look out for if I want to buy a ski jacket for women?

There are a few important aspects that every skier or snowboarder will consider when buying their ski jacket. Obviously, a lot depends on the weather conditions that we are going to ski in and the type of person we are. Whether you prefer a slim fit ski jacket or a larger one is usually a matter of personal taste. Here are some things that are worth paying closer attention to:

Check whether the jacket you want to buy is waterproof and snow-proof or at least water-resistant. You do not want the snow or the rain to penetrate through the fabric – it’s the easiest way to catch a cold! However, make sure that the jacket is breathable, allowing the moisture (the sweat) to escape out!

The majority of clothes for winter sports should be fleece-lined, providing you with an extra layer of warmth and protection.

All the ladies ski jackets should have one thing: practical internal pockets. That’s where you can put your phone, some money, a lip balm or any small object you might need on the slope.

Skiing is a sport that exposes our bodies to a big difference of temperatures. When we go skiing, it is usually considerably cold outside, however, since our body is in constant movement, we sweat quite a lot too. Therefore, internal zip fans, designed to regulate body heat, are surely a great addition to a ski jacket for ladies, but also for men.

Softshell ski jacket vs hardshell ski jacket

What is the difference between these two types? Softshell jackets are usually those that can be worn as an outer layer in mild, but not too cold weather conditions. Frequently, they are also used as middle layers. A good thing about them is that they are highly breathable. They are water-resistant, but not waterproof like hardshell jackets. Those, on the other hand, are not as breathable as the softshell ones and are mostly recommended for backcountry skiers and bad weather conditions.

How to wash a ski jacket?

Just like with all your clothes – look at the label. Normally, you should be able to wash it in the washing machine and using a special detergent for waterproof fabrics. Using a regular detergent may destroy the waterproof coating of your jacket. Alternatively, you may hand wash your jacket too, again, using a special detergent.
